What to do if you think you have a urine infection.

Do you have a urine infection?

Symptoms of a urine infection may include;

- Pain or burning on passing urine

- Blood in your urine

- Passing urine more frequently

- Fever

- Abdominal or low back pain

What should I do?

Many urine infections can be treated without antibiotics if you are well in yourself.

- Drink lots of water to flush the infection out

- See your pharmacist to get over the counter medication

If you are unwell, or the above has not worked, then you should contact us.

How to tell us that you need antibiotics

Click on the link below to let us know that you think you need antibiotic treatment. We will try our best to respond within 24 hours but this can be longer at busy times. Please tell us your symptoms and when they started. Please give us much information as possible so we can make a clinical decision.

In most cases, we do not require a urine sample but you may be asked to drop one off before starting treatment. However, we will need urine samples if you are a man, pregnant or any children as per recommended guidelines.

If you have blood in your urine, we will usually ask you to drop off a urine sample to make sure the blood has fully cleared - sometimes blood can be microscopic e.g. can only be seen through a microscope and it is important that you do submit a sample if requested by our team.
