PRESCRIPTIONS

How to request a prescription

You can request a prescription in lots of different ways.

  • Online - click here
  • NHS App
  • Via your local pharmacy
  • In writing - drop off your request at the surgery

Nominating a Pharmacy

To allow your prescriptions to be sent electronically, you need to 'Nominate' a pharmacy. You can do this by asking us at your appointment or by calling us or email, or by instructing your preferred pharmacy to set up. It's a simple as that!

Find a Pharmacy

You can find a list of local pharmacies using the link below.

https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/pharmacy/find-a-pharmacy

Prescription Process

Once we receive your prescription. we usually process this within 48 hours. Please allow longer for busy periods and submit your request a few days before you need your medication.

Please note that the 48 hours applies to when we receive your request and not when you tell your pharmacist as there can be a delay in them telling us so leave plenty of time - ideally a few days.

Your prescription will usually be sent to your nominated pharmacy electronically. You can choose which pharmacy you prefer anywhere in the UK including online pharmacy services.

We have a dedicated and experienced team processing your prescriptions and a team of Pharmacists prescribing to make sure we perform at the highest and safest standards.

Prescription Queries

If you have a query about your prescription you can discuss this with your pharmacist or get in touch with us to review. Please email us and our medicines management team will look into the matter for you. r.quayside@nhs.net

Lost Prescriptions

If you happen to lose your prescription, please let us know as soon as possible. Some medications like controlled drugs may not be prescribed again but each individual case will be reviewed.

Why can I not get my medication prescribed?

Medications that are available to buy in pharmacies and shops (over the counter) are usually not available on prescription as per guidelines.

Some medications may only be hospital prescribed and others may need to be initiated by hospitals before GP's can continue the prescription.

Why do I need a medication review?

Our admin and clinical team deliver the highest standards and will advise if you need a medication review or a blood test. We will notify you of this and give you time to have any reviews and tests. If despite our requests you do not action our requests to ensure safe prescribing, we may be unable to prescribe your medication.
