How Your Pharmacist Can Help

You Don't Always Need a GP

Studies have shown that Pharmacists are able to give advice. manage and offer treatment for a wide range of minor ailments successfully.

Helping Your GP & Others

By using Pharmacists for minor ailments instead of your GP, more appointments are available for others that need help with issues that pharmacists can not deal with. The use of Pharmacists can significantly increase available GP appointments if utilised.

What Can You see The Pharmacist For?

There are a range of services available and most Pharmacists can help with the following;


  • Insect bites and stings
  • General - hay fever, sleep problems, tiredness
  • Respiratory infections - coughs, colds, flu, sore throats
  • Ears - pain, wax, hearing problems
  • Eyes - conjunctivitis, watery eyes, sticky eyes, eyelid problems
  • Mouth - ulcers, cold sores, thrush, toothache, 
  • Gastric - heartburn / indigestion, nausea, vomiting, 
  • Bowel - diarrhoea, constipation, colic, rectal pain, piles
  • Urinary - Cystitis, vaginal discharge or irritation
  • Swelling - ankle, foot, lower limb, toe, wrist, hands, fingers

Do You Need An Appointment?

Most services do not require an appointment and have a drop in service as and when needed.

What If My Pharmacist Can't Help?

If your Pharmacist is unable to help, they will re-direct you to the appropriate service for further care. This could be your GP or A&E.
